100 Things

  1. My name is Robin.
  2. I write this blog for no particular reason.
  3. I live in Idaho (that’s Idaho not Iowa, Mr. President).
  4. I left town soon after high school,  14 years later and I moved back to my small rural hometown.
  5. The movie Napoleon Dynamite is more true to life than you think.
  6. In my high school, the “gang bangers” rivals were the cowboys. 
  7. I’m not kidding.
  8. My class didn’t have a 10 year reunion; our Student Body President was “unavailable.”
  9. This didn’t surprise me.
  10. I have a husband named Don.
  11. You won’t hear much from him around here. 
  12. He’s a silent contributor. 
  13. When I was little I wanted to be a librarian when I grew up.
  14. Don’t ask me why.
  15. I used to raise sheep for 4H.
  16. If you don’t know what 4H is, watch Napoleon Dynamite.
  17. Anyway, one year I had the Reserve Champion sheep.
  18. I made $1000 when I sold Baab at the auction.
  19. I think I have a picture of that somewhere.
  20. How many is this? #20.  100 things about me is a lot!
  21. I have a Top 10 list of my most embarrassing moments.
  22. Actually, there are more than 10.
  23. I will share with you a few of them.
  24. #1 There was the time in college when I fell out of the shower freshman year while shaving and slid across the bathroom floor, still holding my razor. 
  25. #2 And I tend to look at the ground when I walk. 
  26. As a result I walked head first into the same tree twice within a week. 
  27. I should tell you this also happened during my freshman year of college. 
  28. I attribute it to the fact that I didn’t get a lot of sleep that year.
  29. I never was very good at dating.
  30. Thank goodness I’m married now. 
  31. #3 When I was 22 I threw up in a guys car when I was passing kidney stones.
  32. He would go on to marry one of my friends.
  33. I sang at their beautiful wedding a few years later.
  34. Don inherited my problem when he married me.
  35. #4 A couple of years ago we went on a family cruise to Mexico.
  36. Don and I decided to play BINGO one night.
  37. I forgot what Blackout BINGO meant.
  38. From the back of the auditorium I yelled out BINGO when I only had one row filled on the card.
  39. Don actually got up and moved a few seats away from me.
  40. If I were a boy my parents were going to name me Brian.
  41. I was born 3 weeks past my due date.
  42. If I’d been born a week earlier my name would have been Deanna.
  43. The story is that my Mom woke my Dad up in the middle of the night to tell him that they weren’t going to name me Deanna.
  44. I ended up with the name Robin because my parents knew a lady named Wren. 
  45. It made them think of bird names.
  46. I really like the name Wren.
  47. My parents named my younger sister Deanna. 
  48. And then she married a guy named Bryan.
  49. I think that’s funny.
  50. What are we at now?  #50.
  51. My favorite ”Do Nothing Day” movie is Deuce Bigalow.
  52. The first one, not the second.
  53. I used to play the flute.
  54. For 6 years, in fact.
  55. I gave it up in college and joined choir.
  56. I liked singing better.
  57. When I was a kid I had a horse named Concho.
  58. He was a black and white appaloosa and he was blind in one eye.
  59. He didn’t like me much.
  60. Once time he actually clothes lined me. 
  61. He ran through my Mom’s clothes line and I fell off.
  62. He also used to turn around and run for home when I would take him out riding.
  63. One time he ran so fast that I bounced off the saddle and rode for a while clinging on to his neck until he stopped.
  64. I quit riding horses after that.
  65. For my birthday growing up I always had pumpkin pie.
  66. I never liked cake.
  67. I was a NKOTB fan.
  68. If you don’t know what that means then you won’t care.
  69. I saw them in concert when they came to Boise.
  70. John waved to me.  I know he did.  We had a moment.
  71. I saw the Indigo Girls in concert at the Berkley Amphitheater.
  72. Somebody asked me out at the concert.
  73. It wasn’t a guy.
  74. Uh oh, I lost count.  Hold on.
  75. This is number 75.  Only 25 more to go!
  76. I didn’t drink alcohol until I was married.
  77. I don’t drink a lot now.
  78. I do like red wine, though.
  79. And frozen margaritas.
  80. And good beer.
  81. I wish I played the piano.
  82. And the acoustic guitar.
  83. I’ve considered taking lessons.
  84. I’ve also thought about taking English horse riding lessons.
  85. Is this my midlife crisis?
  86. I read Better Homes & Gardens.
  87. I want a perfect looking house and garden too.
  88. I’d like to show up when they’re not expecting it and see if their house still looks the way it does in the magazine.
  89. And when I try their recipes they never look quite the same as they do in the pictures, either.
  90. I lived in Germany for 5 years.
  91. Sometimes I wonder if I’ll ever really like living back in the States.
  92. I miss Germany so much I dream about it.
  93. I don’t speak a lot of German.
  94. But I understand enough to know what’s going on.
  95. Someday, I’d like to live in Europe again—we’ll see.
  96. I have 3 dogs.
  97. 1 15 year old stubborn Siberian Husky named Nook.
  98. We adopted him in Germany when he was 12.
  99. He may be old, but he can still run!
  100. Last week I chased him for 2 blocks before I was able to grab him by the tail.
  101. We also have two pups.
  102. Chief, a black Labrador retriever, I call him the Jester.
  103. And Jed, a Chesapeake Bay Retriever, the stoic one with the subtle sense of humor.
  104. Sometimes it feels like we have 3 kids.
  105. Parents might find that comparison strange.
  106. They probably haven’t had 3 dogs.
  107. There’s 107 things about me!  That’s probably enough.
